Abstract

The article "SIEGE OF TOULON" details the events that unfolded in Toulon, French Republic, from September to December 1793. The siege was a result of a revolt in Toulon against the Jacobin officials, leading to the city being taken over by counter-revolutionaries supported by the British Royal Navy. The French Republican Army, under the leadership of Major-General Jacques Coquille Dugommier and aided by Napoleon Bonaparte, eventually recaptured Toulon after a series of battles and assaults, forcing the allies to evacuate the city. The aftermath of the siege saw reprisals by the French against those deemed traitors, with hundreds executed. [Extracted from the article]
