Abstract
This article focuses on the online engagements of Indigenous Australian gender and sexuality diverse people and their intersections with social and emotional well-being (SEWB). It reviews existing literature on Indigenous Australians’ and gender and sexuality diverse peoples’ digital involvement, highlighting complex negotiations within digital spaces that both enable cultural expression and activism while also exposing users to racism, discrimination, and digital violence. The article discusses the blog "Archiving the Aboriginal Rainbow," created to foreground Indigenous gender and sexuality diverse voices and counter colonial and heteronormative narratives, emphasizing the importance of Indigenous self-representation online. It identifies significant gaps in research on how Indigenous gender and sexuality diverse individuals experience digital spaces and calls for further studies to explore these experiences and their impact on SEWB from Indigenous perspectives.
