Abstract
The article focuses on the Nachbergbauzeit NRW 2025 conference held at the Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA) in Bochum, Germany, which addressed the integration of digitalization with traditional post-mining practices. Organized by THGA’s Research Center of Post-Mining (FZN) and the Arnsberg District Government, the event gathered around 250 participants from business, science, and administration to discuss challenges, solutions, and opportunities related to digital technologies in post-mining. Key topics included the use of drones for environmental monitoring, modern reservoir management in salt mining, improvements in digital mapping for risk assessment in legacy mining areas, and the implications of the EU Methane Regulation for post-mining activities. The conference also highlighted the development of open data platforms, interactive hazard analysis tools, and digital water management strategies, emphasizing the ongoing digital transformation in post-mining and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, data integration, and political frameworks. The event provided valuable insights for professionals and students alike, fostering knowledge exchange and networking, with the next conference scheduled for 2027.
