Abstract

In this correspondence, philologist Sebastiano Timpanaro and historian Carlo Ginzburg discuss the role of Freud's work. The letters provide an important source for the Italian reception of psychoanalysis in its relation to the emergence of microhistory, by opening a window on to the political-intellectual microcosm of the 1970s and on an epistemological debate crucial to the understanding of psychoanalysis and the human sciences at large.
