Abstract

The article focuses on the historical significance and cinematic portrayal of Emmett Till’s 1955 lynching, a case that has drawn extensive scholarly and cultural attention as a catalyst for the civil rights movement. It highlights the unique aspects of Till’s murder, including the public trial and acquittal of his killers, Roy Bryant and J. W. Milam, and the enduring impact of his mother Mamie Till-Mobley’s activism. The recent film *Till*, directed by Chinonye Chukwu, centers on Till-Mobley’s perspective but has been critiqued for underemphasizing the racial and social conflicts central to the case. Despite its commercial underperformance and some casting choices, the film is recognized for its historical accuracy and contribution to preserving Till’s legacy.
