Abstract

The article focuses on the underexplored role of neuropsychology in evaluating U.S. citizenship applicants seeking exemption from naturalization exams due to cognitive or psychological impairments. A literature review found limited information and no specific guidelines to assist neuropsychologists in determining eligibility for test waivers using Form N-648. The authors highlight a significant gap in neuropsychological research and practice related to this process, despite the increasing naturalization rates and the potential socioeconomic benefits of citizenship. They suggest that future research and interdisciplinary collaboration could enhance neuropsychological services and advocacy for this historically underserved population.
