Abstract
This article discusses the importance of researching livery and guild records for family history purposes. It explains that tradesmen in provincial towns may have become freemen of guilds or livery companies, which were established to regulate trades and crafts. The article suggests using Ancestry's collection of papers associated with freeman applications to search for records related to apprenticeship and admission to the company. It also mentions other resources for guild records outside of London. Additionally, the article includes a reader's genealogy question and provides a possible solution. [Extracted from the article]
