Abstract

The article focuses on Afeni Shakur's significant role in the Black Power movement and her contributions to the Black Panther Party during a tumultuous period in American history. After her arrest as part of the Panther 21 in 1969, Afeni emerged as a determined leader, advocating for her fellow defendants and addressing the inhumane conditions in detention. Despite facing personal challenges, including her pregnancy and marital strife, she represented herself in court and ultimately secured the acquittal of all defendants in 1971. Following her legal victory, she gave birth to her son, Tupac Amaru Shakur, who would go on to become a prominent cultural figure. [Extracted from the article]
