Abstract
Family Dollar, a subsidiary of Dollar Tree Inc., has been ordered to pay a $41.7 million fine for storing food, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics in unsanitary conditions at its distribution center in West Memphis, Arkansas. The company pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of causing FDA-regulated products to become adulterated. The plea agreement represents the largest monetary criminal penalty in a food safety case. The company continued to ship products from the warehouse until January 2022, when an FDA inspection revealed live rodents, rodent feces, and evidence of gnawing and nesting.
