Abstract
The Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC) has voted to ban the publication of photographs of burial offerings excavated from Indigenous sites in its flagship journal. Many tribes in the U.S. Southeast consider the publication of these images to be a violation of their spiritual and cultural beliefs. Supporters of the policy argue that it encourages collaboration between archaeologists and tribes, while critics worry about the impact on academic freedom and research. The debate reflects changing archaeological ethics, and similar image restrictions are expected to be adopted by other organizations in the future. [Extracted from the article]
