Abstract

Howard Walter Florey was from Adelaide and became a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. The British Medical Bulletin (BMB) has an extensive archive dating back to 1943. He describes the hunt for new antibiotics, stimulated by the find of penicillin in Oxford in 1940 and shows that its discovery was the result of many scientists working in the field.
