Abstract

The article focuses on the Accra Community Centre, a building designed by British architects Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew in 1951, which has evolved significantly since Ghana's independence. Originally intended to provide recreational and educational opportunities for the youth, the centre has served various functions over the decades, including a concert hall, political rally venue, and law court. Despite its decline in prominence and condition, plans are underway to restore the centre and transform it into a Ga Heritage Museum, aiming to celebrate the culture of the Ga people and preserve the building's historical significance. The centre's architectural features reflect tropical modernism, and its mural by Ghanaian artist Kofi Antubam symbolizes unity and the complexities of Ghana's independence journey.
