META spotlights Bayobab and other partners for the 2Africa Subsea Cable milestone.

Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments in digital infrastructure and AI initiatives across Africa and the Middle East. It highlights DataVolt’s $5 billion investment in a sustainable AI factory campus in Saudi Arabia’s NEOM industrial city, aimed at advancing the Kingdom’s AI workforce. In South Africa, MTN Group’s digital infrastructure company Bayobab was recognized for its role in the completion of 2Africa, the world’s longest subsea cable system led by Meta, which will significantly enhance connectivity across Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe. Additionally, MTN and Microsoft announced a partnership to expand access to AI-powered productivity tools, such as Microsoft 365 with Copilot, to millions of Africans, supporting digital skills development and economic participation starting in early 2026.
