Abstract
The article "New Readings of the History of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance from the Mid-1950s to the Mid-1970s" discusses a collective monograph by scholars from the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences on socialist economic integration within the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA). The monograph covers political, ideological, economic, and foreign trade aspects of the CMEA, focusing on the USSR and its Eastern European allies. The article also examines the perception of the CMEA by external adversaries like France and the USA, based on declassified documents and contemporary research. The text highlights the challenges and contradictions faced by the CMEA, particularly in relation to Romania's unique position and the impact of market reforms in the GDR.
