Abstract
The article focuses on the role of canned meat relief during the Dust Bowl, a series of severe dust storms in the central United States during the 1930s that caused widespread ecological and social disruption. It explains that the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA), established in 1933 under President Roosevelt, provided paid jobs and distributed canned meat to support displaced populations in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The meat, sourced from cattle unable to survive the drought, was processed and canned using semi-automatic equipment, then quality-checked before distribution through Relief Centers. The article also notes the involvement of nearby can manufacturers, though the specific supplier remains unidentified.
