Abstract
This article provides a brief overview of key events that occurred during August 1944 in World War II. The French Forces of the Interior launched an uprising in Paris on August 19, which resulted in intense fighting and the eventual liberation of the city by Allied forces. The Warsaw Uprising, the largest resistance effort in Europe during the war, began on August 1 but ultimately ended in defeat for the Polish Home Army. The article also mentions the uncovering of Nazi atrocities in the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre and the Battle of the Falaise Pocket, where Allied forces trapped and captured a significant number of German troops. Additionally, it highlights the Soviet victory in Operation Bagration, which inflicted a major defeat on the German Army Group Centre and resulted in the capture of thousands of German soldiers.
