Abstract

The article focuses on toy company Mattel, Inc.'s plan to launch an in-house publishing imprint in the U.S. and Canada in 2024 to expand storytelling around its intellectual properties (IP). This imprint will complement existing publishing partnerships and concentrate on titles closely tied to franchise launches and world-building across formats such as board books, middle-grade novels, and digital content. Ryan Ferguson, head of global publishing, will oversee the imprint, which will handle development and production internally while partnering with an external distributor for sales. The initiative aims to leverage Mattel's extensive IP portfolio, including brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, and American Girl, to enhance consumer engagement through integrated publishing.
