Abstract

This article focuses on a prospective study evaluating the use of local anesthesia (LA) alone for penile and scrotal urologic procedures as an alternative to sedation or general anesthesia. Conducted at the University of Manitoba, the study enrolled adult patients undergoing procedures such as hydrocelectomies and circumcisions, assessing patient-reported pain and tolerability. Preliminary results from 72 patients show a 100% success rate with no perioperative complications and 93.1% of patients willing to choose LA again, indicating high tolerability. The study suggests that LA-only approaches may reduce healthcare costs, wait times, and improve surgical accessibility without compromising safety.
