Abstract

Partial results from Namibia's elections indicate that the country is likely to have its first female leader, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, from the ruling party SWAPO. With 465,995 votes counted, Nandi-Ndaitwah has 54% support, while the Independent Patriots for Change's Panduleni Itula has 29.4%. Namibia, known for its uranium and diamond deposits, may also become a significant oil and gas producer. The elections have seen high voter turnout, with 1.45 million people registered to vote.
