Abstract
The article focuses on Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's controversial plan to keep the Olympic rings permanently displayed on the Eiffel Tower following the 2024 Olympic Games. This proposal has drawn criticism from heritage conservation groups, members of the Paris Council, and the Association of Descendants of Gustave Eiffel, who argue that the monument should not be altered to promote an external organization. The Eiffel Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage site and symbol of Paris, was originally intended to be temporary and is protected as a historical monument, though not classified with the highest level of protection. Opponents also highlight procedural concerns and have launched petitions urging the removal of the rings after the Games conclude.
