Abstract
Representative Mike Turner, a defense hawk, has been removed as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee by House Speaker Mike Johnson. The decision, made close to an inauguration, was described as needing a "fresh start" in the intelligence community. Turner's support for Ukraine and diverging views with President-elect Donald Trump on surveillance powers were cited as reasons for his removal. Despite praise from Democratic colleagues, Turner did not provide reasons for his demotion and will continue to serve on the Armed Services Committee. [Extracted from the article]
