Abstract
The article focuses on Netflix's biopic *Shirley*, which stars Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to run for U.S. president in 1972. It highlights Chisholm's early life, political career, and her historic presidential campaign aimed at representing marginalized groups including Black, women, Chicano, LGBTQ, and immigrant communities. Although she did not secure the Democratic nomination, Chisholm's campaign influenced legislation such as raising the minimum wage for domestic workers and helped establish key institutions like the Congressional Black Caucus to mentor future Black politicians. The film and Chisholm's legacy emphasize her role in expanding political inclusion and social services during her 14 years in Congress.
