Do Large Language Models Vindicate Skinner's Approach to Language?
Published In: Psychology & Psychiatry Journal, 2025. P. 67 1 of 2

Abstract
The article discusses the evolution of theories surrounding language acquisition, highlighting the contrast between B. F. Skinner's reinforcement learning model and Noam Chomsky's nativist approach. It notes that Chomsky's critique of Skinner's work contributed to the decline of behaviorism in linguistics. The emergence of large language models, which demonstrate that language can be learned through experience and reinforcement, poses challenges to the Chomskyan framework. The preprint referenced has not undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
