Abstract
In these respects, both for a general readership and the scholarly community, the best overarching works on Scotland in the global context remain T.M. Devine's I Scotland's Empire, 1600-1815 i and I To the Ends of the Earth: Scotland's Global Diaspora, 1750-2010. i His book, instead, he asserts, will only include individuals from Scotland or figures with strong Scottish networks, and address the careers of Scots in detail including historic successes of elites abroad. Pittock accepts the risk in taking such a celebratory and exceptional "A" list approach, but asserts that Scots and Scotland are indeed exceptional!. [Extracted from the article]
