Abstract
Robert Kagan's book "Rebellion: How Antiliberalism Is Tearing America Apart—Again" defends the post-Cold War international order and argues that Donald Trump is a profound threat to the republic. Kagan emphasizes the existential crisis facing American institutions and presents a binary contrast between the forces of virtue and the army of vice. However, Kagan's definition of liberalism is contested, and his interpretation of American history as an irrepressible conflict between liberalism and anti-liberalism is seen as preposterous and pernicious. Kagan's rigid and exclusive doctrine of liberalism lacks the reconciliation and complexity expressed by Abraham Lincoln. [Extracted from the article]
