Abstract
Luca Della Libera's monograph, "The Roman Sacred Music of Alessandro Scarlatti," provides a comprehensive survey of Scarlatti's liturgical music in Rome. The book explores the different styles of church music used by Scarlatti, including traditional contrapuntal stile antico, homophonic hymns and psalms, and solo voices with continuo. Della Libera also examines Scarlatti's connections to powerful patrons and provides detailed information on the culture, venues, performances, and patrons of sacred music in Rome during Scarlatti's time. While the book has some minor inconsistencies and omissions, it is a valuable resource for those interested in Scarlatti's Roman sacred music. [Extracted from the article]
