Abstract

The article focuses on Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1952 presidential campaign strategy to win over the American South, historically a Democratic stronghold. Despite initial Republican skepticism, Eisenhower personally campaigned across southern states, avoiding contentious racial issues while addressing economic concerns like states' rights over offshore oil. His efforts resulted in significant Republican gains in the South, including victories in Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, and Texas, marking a pivotal shift that laid the groundwork for the region's eventual realignment toward the Republican Party by the late 20th century.
