Abstract
This article outlines the Huntington Library Quarterly’s (HLQ) new editorial direction beginning in 2024, emphasizing its expanded focus on the early modern period (circa 1400–1800) as a connected, cosmopolitan era encompassing diverse cultures and regions beyond its traditional Anglophone and Eurocentric scope. The HLQ now invites interdisciplinary scholarship across literature, art, history, science, medicine, material culture, and critical cultural studies, with particular attention to the African Diaspora, Indigenous Americas, and global interactions. New article categories include "Assessments and Approaches," featuring methodological and theoretical essays, and "Early/Modern Connections," highlighting research linked to public humanities projects. The journal’s redesign includes color images and a new crimson cover, reflecting its broadened remit and commitment to addressing historical inequities. [Extracted from the article]
