Abstract
The article focuses on the accuracy and historical significance of Antony van Leeuwenhoek's seventeenth-century microscopic drawings and observations. It examines how Leeuwenhoek's original single-lens microscope images, often rendered by anonymous limners, compare with modern photomicrographs and early twentieth-century microcinematography, particularly the work of Jan Cornelis Mol. The research demonstrates that Leeuwenhoek's depictions of microorganisms, despite artistic interpretation and engraving processes, closely correspond to the actual appearance of these organisms as seen through both historical and contemporary microscopes. This study addresses longstanding scholarly doubts about Leeuwenhoek's reliability and highlights the pioneering role of single-lens microscopy in the development of microbiology.
