Abstract

The author reflects on the 40th anniversary issue of Literatur in Bayern and seeks to represent the cultural and literary diversity of Bavaria through its museums and regional histories. Topics include the role of museums as cultural memory sites across Bavaria, the interplay of reality and imagination in literary and historical representations from Jean Paul to Mickey Mouse and the symbolic reflections of Bavarian identity in figures such as Ludwig I of Bavaria and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
