Abstract

The article presents the results of work carried out in the Ardila river basin, in the province of Badajoz (Spain), combining new technologies such as LiDAR with traditional archaeological surface surveys. It led to the identification of a substantially increased number of Roman fortifications in the area. These are shown to be related to the only known major conflict in the region during the Late Republic: the Sertorian Wars, and to be part of a front established in this context.
