Abstract
The article examines whether Ireland should participate in Europe's 2027 Year of the Normans, arguing that the Norman invasion of 1169–71 is better understood as the end of a wider Norman age of conquest rather than the beginning of British imperial rule. Topics include the military and economic foundations of Norman power, Ireland's structural vulnerability before the invasion, and the political choices that enabled Norman intervention in Irish affairs.
