Abstract
The article discusses the differences in Christmas celebrations among Orthodox Christians, who represent about 12% of the global Christian population, estimated at 250 to 300 million. While many Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25, Orthodox Christians typically observe the holiday on January 6 or 7, following the Julian calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. The article also explores the historical context of December 25 as a holiday, linking it to pagan traditions and the Roman festival of Saturnalia, and notes that some Christian groups, such as the Puritans in the 17th century, opposed Christmas due to its pagan associations.
