Abstract
The article focuses on the exhibition "Sophie Rivera: Double Exposures," which showcases the work of photographer Sophie Rivera, highlighting her contributions to the representation of Latinx identity through her series "Latino Portraits" (1978–79). Rivera, a Puerto Rican-born artist, captured the essence of Nuyoricans in her portraits, emphasizing their subjectivity during a politically charged time in Puerto Rico's history. The exhibition, held at El Museo del Barrio, also reflects Rivera's evolution as a politically engaged artist and her commitment to marginalized communities. The curator notes that Rivera's work invites further exploration of her complex identity and artistic legacy. [Extracted from the article]
