Abstract

The article focuses on the historical development of national parks in Queensland, Australia, emphasizing the role of artistic depictions in shaping public appreciation for the region's landscapes. It discusses the long-standing connection of Aboriginal people to the land and contrasts this with European settlers' initial perceptions, which often led to the exploitation of natural resources. Over time, artistic representations by various painters and photographers contributed to a growing recognition of the aesthetic and ecological value of Queensland's landscapes, culminating in the establishment of national parks and World Heritage areas to protect these sites. The paper highlights key figures and events in the movement towards conservation, illustrating how art and tourism have influenced the preservation of Queensland's natural beauty.
