Abstract
The article focuses on how New York museums are presenting inclusive and multifaceted perspectives on American history in the lead-up to the US semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Exhibitions explore early Dutch colonists in New Amsterdam through 17th-century Netherlandish art, the interconnected revolutions of America, France, and Spain via Goya’s works, and immersive historical environments depicting the American Revolution’s diverse participants. Additionally, Native American art and history are highlighted, notably through the New York Historical’s exhibition "House Made of Dawn," which emphasizes Indigenous perspectives and challenges dominant historical narratives. These programs collectively aim to broaden understanding of the nation’s complex past by including varied cultural and historical viewpoints. [Extracted from the article]
