Abstract

Researchers at Stockholm University conducted a study on the impact of using the Swedish gender-inclusive pronoun "hen" on gender categorization of androgynous faces. The study involved 368 participants who were asked to use different pronouns in a writing task and then categorize faces as 'woman,' 'man,' 'nonbinary,' or 'I don't know.' Results showed that using the gender-inclusive pronoun increased nonbinary categorizations, highlighting the visibility of nonbinary individuals. The study suggests that gender-inclusive language can play a role in social policymaking. [Extracted from the article]
