Abstract
This article introduces a thematic issue on the topics of overabundance and defectivity in morphology. It discusses how these phenomena are found in various languages, including English, French, Greek, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. The article also highlights the importance of studying less-commonly-studied languages, such as Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Finnish, and Russian, to gain a better understanding of overabundance and defectivity. The article explores different methodologies for studying these phenomena, including corpus data, experimental data, and evidence from handbooks and normative literature. The special issue includes five articles that examine various aspects of how speakers of Slavonic and Finno-Ugric languages manage defective and overabundant data. [Extracted from the article]
