Abstract

The article discusses the institutional context and student beliefs in the German Studies program at the University of South Carolina Upstate. The region is home to many German companies, leading to the establishment of German high school programs and the German School Upstate. The university has made efforts to improve the German Studies program, including offering a certificate option and dual enrollment courses. The article also highlights the importance of addressing factors both within and outside of faculty control to enhance recruitment and retention in the program. [Extracted from the article]
