Abstract
The article explores the intellectual history of the alphabet and its role in the production and transmission of knowledge. It traces the origins and development of the alphabet and its influence from ancient times to the present day. It examines how the materiality of the alphabet has shaped intellectual conceptions and contributed to the evolution of knowledge systems. The author's book "Inventing the Alphabet: The Origins of Letters from Antiquity to the Present" is also discussed.
