Abstract
The article examines the interactions between settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Native American tribes, particularly the Utes and Shoshones, in Utah from the time of George Washington's presidency onward. It highlights the pressures Native Americans faced to adopt European American culture while their lands were increasingly encroached upon. The narrative is illustrated through two recently discovered panoramas by Danish American artist C. C. A. Christensen, which depict both the settlers' perspectives and the complex dynamics of colonization, violence, and attempts at peaceful coexistence. The article emphasizes the resilience of Indigenous peoples and the significant cultural shifts they underwent during this period. [Extracted from the article]
