Abstract

Artist Hillary Kempenich, who is of Ojibwe, Cree, Assiniboine, Dakota, and French-Canadian descent, combines various influences in her mixed media paintings to promote awareness and health in her community. She draws inspiration from her Indigenous heritage, personal experiences, shared stories, and her deep connections to the natural world. Kempenich aims to break romanticized and outdated ideas about Indigenous people and empower individuals through her work. She is currently working on a collection that explores self-discovery and the impact on Indigenous women in today's world. Other featured artists in the article include Dylan Cavin, Garrett Etsitty, and Randy Kemp, who also use their art to explore Indigenous perspectives and promote dialogue and appreciation for Indigenous culture.
