Abstract

The article discusses how the Hamilton Lugar School at Indiana University prepares students to address emerging security challenges by combining international policy with language and area studies. The school offers a broad understanding of global affairs and has over 80 world language programs, giving graduates a unique advantage. Studying critical and less commonly taught languages, such as Arabic, Russian, and Chinese, can provide students with an edge in understanding key world regions and securing jobs in the public and private sectors. The school also provides opportunities for students to apply their knowledge outside the classroom through role-play simulations, research partnerships with the U.S. State Department, internships, and working with faculty members on global issues.
