The Language of Profeminist Men Online: A Corpus Linguistic Analysis.

Abstract

This article analyzes the language used in r/MensLib (Men’s Liberation), a Reddit community dedicated to discussing men’s issues from a profeminist perspective. Using a corpus linguistic approach on the 50 most upvoted posts and their comments, the study identifies key topics such as support for LGBTQ+ identities, critiques of socially constructed gender roles, and alignment with intersectional feminism while distancing from neoliberal and popular feminism. Members reject hegemonic masculinity in favor of inclusive, healthy traits across genders and frame patriarchy as a harmful power structure affecting all genders. The findings contribute to understanding how profeminist men linguistically position themselves within broader feminist and masculinity discourses in an online context.
