Abstract

Inuit artist Tanya Tagaq has written a bilingual counting book for young readers called "It Bears Repeating." The book, written in Inuk and English, introduces children to Inuit culture and explores themes of food sovereignty and the natural cycle of life in the Arctic. The book features illustrations by Inuit artist Cee Pootoogook, which draw inspiration from Inuit carvings. Tagaq hopes that the book will bridge cultural gaps and foster understanding of Inuit life, as well as help children learn to express themselves in a language not their own.
