Abstract
The article focuses on the book *Okanagan Women's Voices* (2022), which highlights the histories of Syilx (Okanagan) and non-Syilx women from the 1870s to the 1960s, emphasizing female perspectives often overshadowed by male narratives. It draws extensively on writings published in the Okanagan Historical Society (OHS) Reports, featuring women such as Josephine Shuttleworth, Eliza Jane Swalwell, Mourning Dove, Susan Moir Allison, Hester Haynes White, and Matilda Kruger, whose stories reveal complex Indigenous-settler relationships and cultural intersections. The article also discusses the role of the OHS in preserving and disseminating these voices, while noting historical silences and erasures of Indigenous identities within settler accounts. This work contributes to Indigenous herstory by foregrounding women's experiences and literary traditions in the Okanagan region.
