Abstract

The article examines how Donald Trump's presidency transformed American political language and rhetoric, replacing traditional civility and truthfulness with vulgarity, bluster, and deliberate falsehoods. It argues that Trump's coarse diction, frequent dishonesty, and theatrical threats normalized a culture of constant emergency and eroded democratic deliberation. His style, marked by boastful megalomania and coded bigotry, has influenced other politicians and public discourse, lowering expectations for presidential communication and undermining the norms of statesmanship. The piece concludes that this linguistic decline poses a long-term challenge to restoring reasoned, honest political speech in the United States. [Extracted from the article]
