Abstract

Researchers from Fontys University of Applied Sciences conducted two studies to explore the phenomenon of mansplaining, where men explain things to women in a degrading manner. The studies found that men do not necessarily think they know more than women or are more likely to offer explanations in conversations. However, women are more likely to interpret explanations as insulting, regardless of whether they come from a man or a woman. The research aims to provide a conceptual grounding for mansplaining in communication theories and highlights the role of communication biases in understanding this phenomenon.
