Abstract
A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands focused on the intergenerational language transmission of Frisian and Low Saxon in the region. The study found that parental language transmission plays a crucial role in maintaining regional languages, with factors such as the other parent's language, frequency of language use, language attitudes, and urbanization influencing the transmission process. The researchers suggest that positive language attitudes and increased language use in various social contexts could help bolster language maintenance efforts for Frisian and Low Saxon.
