The region, which includes Zhangjiajie and Huaihua, is home to significant cultural centers for the Tujia, Miao, and Dong ethnic groups, with historical sites like the UNESCO World Heritage site of Laosicheng showcasing Tujia heritage. The area is also renowned for its stunning landscapes, including the Wulingyuan scenic area, which inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the film Avatar.
